Summer…It’s Your Time to Shine!

Did you know Vitamin D is important for bone health, gut health, calcium absorption, and helps your immune system function properly? It also reduces inflammation! Studies have even linked good vitamin D levels to reduced risks of colon cancer and heart attack.   

Vitamin D is both a nutrient we eat and a hormone our bodies make. Few foods are naturally rich in vitamin D, so the biggest dietary sources of vitamin D are fortified foods and vitamin supplements. Vitamin D rich foods include salmon, tuna, egg yolks, and cheese, but the best way to get vitamin D is your daily dose of sunshine.  Foods like milk, yogurt, orange juice and cereal are frequently fortified with vitamin D, but the best way to be sure you are getting enough vitamin D is to spend some time outside, in the sun.  Sunscreen will reduce your body's ability to produce Vitamin D, so be sure to get your rays in during the hours before 10am or after 4pm, if possible.  

Even better, combine your rays with a brisk walk or yoga to exercise and promote bone health at the same time you give your body some time to make vitamin D naturally. 

So go ahead, put on your sneakers, go outside for a walk, grab something healthy to eat at Sweetberry Bowls and get some sun!

A good article and I completely agree with the author in his views on the summer period of life, it really is the time when we all shine. For me, summer will always be associated with the very period when you take a break from studying or working. Now that I'm studying at university, using a thesis writing service helps me to shine a lot, which in turn makes my life easier and I can relax even during working hours when summer is still far away, it's really a very cool service. The last week of summer always hits me especially hard, for some reason it is always so sad, it feels like they are saying goodbye to you.
